Dark ruby red dress. Complex bouquet of black fruits with spicy notes. A charming and structured wine with present but elegant tannins, well-balanced with powerful aromas of wild fruit, undergrowth and liquorice.
To enjoy with poultry and red meats, especially in spicy exotic dishes to which its peppery vinosity forms a lively counterpart.
Serve ideally at a temperature of 14° to 16°C (57-60°F).
4 to 6 years.
100% Pinot Noir.
The grapes, harvested manually and then rigorously sorted, were completely destemmed before being placed in vats. Cold maceration for 5 to 8 days preceded alcoholic fermentation for 15 days with selected yeasts and two daily punch-downs. The wine was then aged for 12 months in oak barrels, with complete malolactic fermentation.
The Maranges vineyard forms the transition between the Côte-d'Or and Saône-et-Loire, continuing naturally from Santenay, with which it shares several Crus. The youngest AOC in the Côte de Beaune (1988), it covers 190 hectares, mainly red, including 7 Premiers Crus. The vineyards extend over Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges and Sampigny-lès-Maranges. The terrain, composed of varied hills and slopes, offers a predominantly south/south-east exposure at an altitude of between 240 and 400 metres. Cheilly has light, stony soils, while Sampigny and Dezize have brown limestone and calcareous marl soils similar to those in the south of Santenay.
